Guiding Light Divider

I know you've all heard of a glowworm. I once heard it that a glowworm took a step so small it could hardly be measured. But as it moved across the fields at midnight, there was just enough light in its glow to light up the step ahead. As it moved forward, it always moved in the light.

At times we feel lost, like we are stumbling around in the dark. However, the Bible says, "The path of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, shining ever brighter till the full light of day." (Proverbs 4:18). Just like the glowworm's path is lit as it continues to take each step, the light of the Word lights our every step.

I heard something else one time, although I can't remember if it was an Englishman or what, but he wrote in his diary of an "enlightening" experience he had one dark night: "When I was crossing the Irish Channel one starless night, I stood on the deck by the captain and asked him, "How do your know Holyhead Harbor on so dark a night as this?" The captain replied, "You see those three lights? All of them must line up together as one, and when we see them so united, we know the exact position of the harbor's mouth."

Another scripture says, "In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established." (2 Corinthians 13:1) The Word of God is one of those witnesses. The perfect peace of the Holy Spirit is another. And often, God will send a person or a circumstance to confirm we have heard from His Word and His Spirit. When those three "lights" line up, then you know where the "harbor" is.

The Word of God serves as a continuous Light to evaluate our daily decisions, much like the light in the Cathedral of Florence. The cathedral stands on marshy ground, so the man that built it left a small opening in the dome through which a shaft of light streams every June 21. The sunbeam squarely illuminates a brass plate set in the floor of the sanctuary. Should the ray fail to cover the plate completely, it would indicate the structure had shifted, and steps would need to be taken to deal with the emergency.

The Word of God is the Light which tells you if you have shifted off the path God has set for you. Spend some time reading your Bible tonight and every night.
