Carrie jolted awake at the sound of her alarm clock.  This was her third day waking up in the middle of the night...at least it felt like the middle of the night, even though it was actually early morning.  She was not at all sure why she went through the trouble.  It especially seemed vague and worthless the moments before her head settled back down onto the pillow.

"No!" she yelled at herself, waking up again with a start.  She had promised she would do this and she was going to, even if she went around for the rest of the day with a sleep-deprived, grumpy attitude.  Carrie stumbled to the bathroom, splashed some water on her face and carefully traversed the steps.  Downstairs, she started a pot of coffee and sat down at the kitchen table.  She had originally started doing her devotions on the sofa, only to discover they only lasted the five minutes it took for her to fall asleep again.  At the kitchen table, she took out her Bible, her notebook, and a devotional.  Her attitude brightened.

Once she was up, every moment was worth it.  Meeting God in the early morning hours didn't make her grumpy as she always anticipated, but instead they revitalized her and brought her peace.  The early morning moments gave her a chance to not only meet with God, but to see the sunrise, to watch an occasional bird, to enjoy the silence of the world not yet awake.  It took a while to convince her body of the benefits of such early rising, but soon it became habit.  After a while, the only time she experienced grumpiness was when she missed her morning meeting with God.

God's yoke is light.  He is the rest for our souls that we think sleep should bring.  Taking the time with our Savior in the early morning hours is better than fine cappuccino, the smell of omelets, and bacon.  It is the best part of our day!
