The video below was
made for me by the Kerrville Funeral Home.
They did a wonderful job and through this
video, they honored Gaylon. They have
been so loving and supportive of me since
Gaylon went home to be with God.
For those of you
that sent flowers or cards, thank you from
the bottom of my heart.
Gaylon and I were married May 19, 2007.
We looked forward to a long and happy life
together, but on August 8, 2007 we were told
he had cancer. The type of cancer he
had was reported to be the "worst and
fastest growing" of all cancer types.
On September
10, 2007, my precious husband went home to be
with the Lord.
Gaylon gave me more
love and joy during our few short months
of marriage, than I had ever known before.
He was the most loving man I had ever met
and I thank God each day for bringing us
together as husband and wife. Men like
Gaylon are few and far between.
Gaylon, even at the
age of 60, still had that "little boy"
quality about him. He loved the simple
things and still got excited over God's
handiwork. He would look at the
scenery, birds, butterflies and such, and
say things like, "Just look at God's
handiwork! How can anyone look at
these things and not believe in God.
How can they see this and just take it for
granted, and not take the time to thank God
for all beauty He has give us?"
This little boy
quality in him is one of the reasons
I loved him so very much.
Gaylon was a Believer
and spent several hours each morning in
intercessory prayer for others. He was
a mighty prayer warrior. He loved
Jesus with all his heart and he shared the
love of Jesus in many ways.
Gaylon spent years
helping the VA vets and the homeless.
He was also a Drug and Alcohol abuse
counselor. He loved the work he did
for Jesus...it was his ministry.
He was a Corporal
of US Marine Corp. and was very proud to
have served his country. During his
three years of duty in the Marine Corp, he was
awarded the following medals and awards:
Combat Action Ribbon
Navy Unit Commendation
Good Conduct Medal (1st award)
Good Conduct Medal (2nd award)
National Defense Service Medal
Viet Nam Services Medal w/3*
Viet Nam Campaign Medal
Rifle Expert Badge
Pistol Expert Badge
Gaylon was also the "original" inventor of the
"Shower Buddy". He was inducted into
the International Inventor's Hall of Fame,
in 1995 for this invention. He had let
his patent expire and someone else came out
with a similar version of the Shower Buddy
in 2005.
He
was also a song writer and loved playing his
guitar. He had two guitars and loved
them so much he even named them.....Sweetie
and Baby. :-) He was a wonderful
guitar player and song writer. He was
very talented in this. He didn't even
have to write them down...he would just
start playing his guitar and the words would
just come to him.
He
wrote me five songs during our time together
and I cried with each one when he sang them
to me. The titles of the songs were:
God Sent Me An Angel
Your Eyes Are the Star of My Heart
Will You Walk With Me (this is the
song he sang to me the morning of our
wedding)
The Look In Your Eyes Say It All
God Gave Me the Desires of My
Heart (Through You)
Gaylon could touch my heart as
no one else could, not just through these
songs, but because of who and what he
was....a loving, caring, wonderful man.
Now don't get me wrong, I'm not implying he
was perfect. None of us are, but he
was a precious, wonderful man, and I loved
him so. We like all married couples,
had our moments, but the good far
out-weighed the not-so-good.
Gaylon also had
several different
college degrees, but what made Gaylon the
happiest was the time he spent with God
every morning; what made him so
special was his love for Jesus. Because of
that love and the knowledge of how much
Jesus loved him, Gaylon freely gave love to others.
You see, it's only
because of Jesus and His love for us, that
Gaylon was who he was. Jesus is the
One True answer for us. The only One
that can give us that inner peace and change
our lives for the better.
I
will always love Gaylon and cherish the time we
had. God truly blessed and enriched my
life because of and through Gaylon.
I found a love and joy like none I have ever
known.
Below are several poems I wrote for Gaylon.
Some were written before we married, one on
our first month anniversary and the last one
I wrote today.
To
a lot of men, these would have been silly
and childish, but to Gaylon, these poems
were priceless and I saw them move him to
tears. They meant more to him than
anything I could have bought for him.
You're the One
You're the one God sent to me,
To love, cherish, and adore.
And the love I have within my heart,
Is like none I've known before.
You're the one that lights up my world,
With your sweet and loving touch.
I can't imagine life without you,
For I've never loved this much.
You're the one I give my love to,
It's the world's greatest treasure.
And when two people love each other,
It's also the world's greatest pleasure.
You're the one that makes me complete,
As I walk through this life today.
You are so precious and dear to me,
I love you more than I could say.
You're the one that warms my heart,
And you've touched my life as none before.
You fill me with laugher and with joy,
With you I want to be, forever more.
You're the one that holds my heart,
With the ways you show me you care.
I love the way you say, "I Love You",
You are the answer to my prayer.
You're the one forever in my thoughts,
And nothing will keep us apart,
I thank God each day for the love I found in
you,
And know, I love you with all my heart!
If I had only known
I wouldn't change a thing.
I would still have loved you,
And proudly wore your ring.
If I had only known,
I would have embedded within the smallest of
things
The way you looked at me; the touch of
your hand,
That could make my heart flutter like angel wings.
If I had only known,
How soon you would have go,
I would have held you more tightly,
And never let you go.
If I had only known
This day was so near,
I would have taken more time
To whisper "I love you" in your ear.
If I had only known
I'd soon be missing you,
And the heartache I would feel
I wouldn't change a thing; my love is
ever true.
If I had only known,
That the day would soon be here,
And I'd have to go on without you
Sweetheart, it was worth all these tears.
