Throw Open the Doors
Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if any man
hear my voice and open the door, I will come in to him and will sup with him and he with Me.
Revelation 3:20
A nurse on duty in a pediatric ward often gave the
children an opportunity to listen to their own hearts with her stethoscope.
One day she put the stethoscope into a little boy's ears. She asked
him, "Can you hear that? What do you suppose that is?"
The little boy frowned a moment, caught up in the wonder
of this strange tapping inside his chest. The he broke into a grin and
responded, "Is that Jesus knocking?"
Another story is told of a group of students who
went to visit a great Christian teacher. The wise teacher asked the
young scholars a seemingly obvious question. "Where is the dwelling
place of God?"
The students laughed among themselves and replied, "What
a thing to ask! Is not the whole world full of His glory?"
The teacher smiled and replied, "God dwells wherever man
lets Him in."
The little boy listening to his heart through the
stethoscope seemed to have more wisdom than the group of students.
With his innocent, trusting faith, he had no problem believing that Jesus
was knocking on his heart's door.
Imagine your life to be a house of many rooms. Each
room represents a different aspect of your life. Some of the rooms are
messed up, others are clean and tidy. The doors that are locked
represent areas where you have not invited Jesus to enter.
Like the little boy, when we hear Jesus knocking at the
closed doors of our life, it is up to us to open them and let Him in.
Even those rooms that are dark and frightening are filled with light and
understanding when Jesus enters. Our part is to invite
Him into every aspect of our lives...don't try to keep some hidden or locked.
He knows what's behind each and every door anyway. So just open those
doors and He will do the cleaning. Thanks to Calvary, we can
give our lives completely to Jesus. "Throw Open the Doors" and
leave the rest to Him.
