In the Arms of An Angel
The "Thankful" message
"I thank my God every time I remember you"
When the phone rang and Sarah heard her friend Mary's
tearful voice, she knew something was wrong. Her daughter-in-law
had just miscarried the baby that would have been Mary's first
grandchild. For five months she'd excitedly anticipated the birth
of this precious new life.
Mary was heartbroken. However, as a pastor's
wife, she knew she'd have to be strong and attend to responsibilities
for the following day's church service.
Sarah couldn't get Mary's grieving voice out of her
mind. While loading breakfast fishes into the dishwasher, she
tried to think of a special gift that would offer her friend some small
comfort and expression of compassion. As Sarah cleaned the
countertop , she wiped around a little clay figurine of a chubby-faced
angel holding a baby in its arms.
This little angel had special meaning to Sarah.
She kept it in her kitchen, where she spent many hours, away from the
angel collection displayed in her living room. Her husband, Tony,
gave her this angel on the first Mother's Day after they had lost their
son, Jeffery.
She remembered that each time Mary had visited her
home, she had admired the angel and its significance. Sarah
normally didn't like shopping on Saturdays, but she put down her
dishtowel, grabbed her purse, and went to the specialty shop to find the
exact angel. Later that afternoon, her mission was accomplished.
The next morning, Tony and she decided they would attend Mary's church
rather than their own.
They eased into the back row as the worship service began.
After the first song, Pastor Ron initiated a time of greeting one
another. When Mary turned and saw Sarah walking toward her, a well
of tears filled her eyes. Sarah handed Mary the gift and said,
"Why don't you open this now? I have a feeling you need what's in
here today." As she opened the gift, her face emanated a heavenly
glow. "Sarah, you couldn't have known this, but just after I
found out we'd lost baby Michael, I closed my eyes and envisioned an
angel holding him. Then immediately I remembered the little angel
in your kitchen. I thanked God for showing me he was safely
carried to heaven in the arms of an angel.
6/29/07 Reach out and touch someone that may be
hurting today or just needs a word of encouragement. It could be the
one thing that turns their day around. Let it be a way of saying
"thanks" to God, showing Him you are "thankful" for all He has done for you.
How can we thank
God enough for you in
return for all the joy
we have in the
presence
of our God because
of you?
1 Thessalonians 3:9

But friendship is precious, not only in the
shade, but in the sunshine of life;
and thanks to a benevolent arrangement of things,
the greater part of life is sunshine.
