worth waiting for.Comfort In the Valley
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for Thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff, they comfort me.
Psalm 23:4
When my daughter-in-law was killed by drunk driver back in 1998, I had to learn about trusting God, more than I ever had.
You see, I loved Laurie as if she were my own child and I felt that I had lost one of my children. But, even worse my son lost his wife and their three small children lost their mother.
Sometimes I felt forsaken, lonely, and at times even angry that God allowed Laurie to be taken from us. She was killed instantly, so we didn't even have the opportunity to say "goodbye".
With time, God comforted me with the knowledge that Laurie is with Him and will be reunited with us someday. The Lord laid it on my heart to put a memorial page up for Laurie as a way of encouraging others, even in the midst of my own pain and doubt, and help them understand that while our loved ones will always be in our hearts, our focus remains on the Lord Jesus Christ.
I had read Psalm 23 often, but I never actually understood it until I watched a show on TV of footage in Israel. It showed the rugged terrain traveled by David and the shepherds. Many of the crevices on the rocky hills are so narrow and deep that the sun never shines all the way to the bottom. It remains a shadow. Certain death would result if anyone should fall in, because rescue would be virtually impossible. David's staff helped him walk with sure footing and the rod defended him from wild animals. Most of all, he became acutely aware of God's provision.
Through the "valley" times in our lives, we, too, can be sure that we are not alone. His presence is real. Jesus will still be there through all the pain and the changes in our life situations. Nothing is more comforting.
Only God can take a heart that's broken and make it over again. He brought my family and Laurie's through the worst valley we had ever been through and He will bring you through your valley, whatever it may be. Just turn to Him. Trust Him and He will bring you through!
When you feel the world is weighing hard on your shoulders, there is still hope....just look to the cross and there you will see just how much the Savior really loves you. If He holds the sparrow in flight, He will hold you too. Let Him be your "Comfort in the Valley" of your life.
